Rounding off 2008's retreats back in Sussex

Duncton's CfR class of 2008 Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland, the unique outdoor-based programme specifically designed for women who have, or have had, breast cancer, has celebrated its first full year of retreats by holding the final one of 2008 at Duncton Mill near Petworth in West Sussex from 28-30 September.

Casting for Recovery's first retreat in Ireland

The participants at Brookhall The first ever fly fishing retreat to be held in Ireland took place at Brookhall Trout Fishery near Lisburn from 19-21st September when fourteen women from all over Ireland came together through Casting for Recovery, a unique outdoor-based programme specifically designed for women who have, or have had, breast cancer. CfR debuts in Ireland

The piece was broadcast by BBC Radio Ulster following the first ever Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland retreat on Irish soil and features several participants, one of whom felt that, through the initiative, she had "conquered the world".

Thank you Keith!Pictured is CfR supporter Keith Passant of the North Wilts Fly Fishing Club presenting Sue Hunter with cheques for £2885.80 at CfR's stand at the Game Fair at Blenheim Palace in late July 2008. Keith raised this during a 24 hour flytying marathon at the Orvis shop in Burford. Read Keith's account of his feat of endurance here . CfR is phenomenally grateful to Keith, whose efforts will go towards helping many brave women across the UK and Ireland.

Gloria (centre) describes her trip to the States Gloria Shingler, who is the psycho-social and medical facilitator for Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland, recently attended a retreat at Claryville in the Catskill Mountains of the USA. £15,000 + fundraiser “will make a huge difference”

Happy to be fishing to help CfR Casting for Recovery UK & Ireland was delighted to be the beneficiary of funds well in excess of £15,000 thanks to London-based recruitment company Prima Principia’s recent annual charity fishing day at Dever Springs in Hampshire.
